Tailchaser kept his body low to the ground as he prowled along through Midnight Peak. It was such a strange place to him, where he could feel the presence of cats who were spirits now. The mysticism provided him with a fine place to meditate. He just had to find the spot where he felt the most energy but the most quiet. He was concerned of the turn that the Silence had taken. They had been told of sacrifices to make, and Tailchaser's aversion to gore and violence was preventing him from fully accepting such a move.
These cats from the darkness and the mist were probably far wiser than he. He couldn't argue with them, they knew better than he did. He sat down among the fog and shut his eyes. "Spirits, if you are listening to me, guide my paws and show me the correct path," he meowed. All he could do was pray for guidance. He knew that they would perhaps tell him things he wasn't ready to hear and accept yet.
If only he could converse with a cat such as the wise oracle, Silencefall. However, she did not have a voice of her own. Commands were given, but they were whispered through the Silence, not through her. She knew what she was doing, but Tailchaser could barely understand how she gave the orders that she did. Was she their leader? Maybe. It was hard to tell who led the brilliant movement.
He could hear whispers in his ears, quietly guiding him. Blood sacrifice, sweet sacrifice, they chanted to him. Oh, he could hear it very well. He was struggling to avoid the commands, but it had put him in some sort of a trance. He was powerless to break it, and helpless to do anything but agree. "Blood sacrifice, and I will comply," he whispered back, hardly able to control his own tongue. He shook his head, but the voices persisted in their chanting.
"I will do it!" he cried out as the volume grew too much. The voices shattered and he was left in complete silence. He breathed heavily. They had echoed around in his mind so much, and he was helpless. He was under some sort of spell, a spell that overcame his pacifist intentions and all else. "Sacrifice, sacrifice, sacrifice," he murmured, chuckling to himself. His eyes almost seemed to glow.
The wind blew snow through his fur and onto his face. The weather was getting bad. He could barely see now through all the mist and the fog, but he thought for a moment that he heard pawsteps approaching. Potential sacrifice? his brain hissed to him. He couldn't break the spell. He couldn't shake the command. He was going to have to kill for the ancient voices that rung in his head.

Lupa walked through the fog, almost following the other member of the Silence who was in front of her. Her ears were flat against her skull. Something was happening. There was a strange energy in the air, and she could hear the voices again. If this was an event she could use to further her power and her advantage, she would take the opportunity. She licked her teeth with her pink tongue. Her deep blue eyes sparkled as she watched Tailchaser closely.
He almost seemed like he was in a trance, and she was somewhat fearful. He began to speak of sacrifice, and she was intrigued, yet every instinct told her she should leave. No, no, no, She thought. I can use this, I know I can. There's something going on and I can use it.

With the sound of Lupa's approach, Tailchaser whirled around to face her with a sort of glow in his eyes. His body was trembling. His mind was racing. But he identified her as one of the members of the Silence, one of the ones he should not and could not lay his claws on. His fur, once bristled, began to flatten and he knew this was not a cat he could sacrifice as per the command of the mysterious spirits.
"Lupa," he meowed, finally identifying her after moments of looking at her face. He observed her deep blue eyes and they met with his. The tortoiseshell she-cat in front of him seemed fearfully intrigued. Tailchaser began to feel his trance slip away, and he became his normal self again. He shook his head, which was pounding, and felt like all the blood had drained from it. "What are you doing all the way out here?"
He knew he could have been asked the same question, but at least most cats knew that he did go out to places like this in order to get some solitude and meditate. He had never experienced anything like this before. He was still trying to decipher if it had been just a dream, or if what had happened had truly happened. The members of the Silence seemed to be so in tune with the spirits of the mountains. He had to wonder why.
"I'm sorry if I may have been behaving strangely," he sighed. "Sometimes the voices just take over your mind. Have you ever had that happen?" He hoped there was some cat who could relate to his experience. They all heard the voices, maybe some of the others had heard the dark commands of sacrifice as well.

Though she was somewhat threatening by Tailchaser at this point, Lupa knew he was usually harmless. She stood her ground and tried to play coy, listening to what he was saying. Her blue eyes were half narrowed. Her tail swished and she brushed it against the gingery tom in front of her. "I was just out for a hike," she replied. "I assume you were doing the same." She continued to look at him with suspicion.
"I don't believe I've ever experienced what you're talking about," she meowed. What she wasn't admitting was that she had felt a little strange, and in fact she had heard some of the things that Tailchaser seemed to be describing. Still, she wanted to know more about it before she said anything else.

His whiskers drooped. He was disappointed that Lupa couldn't understand what he was going through. He hoped he wasn't the only one who had dealt with things like this. He'd have to see the oracle, even if she couldn't speak, she could nod and communicate with her body language. "Oh, well I suppose I'll have to talk with Silencefall," he meowed quietly.
"It's just that the voices... they were telling me things I'm not used to hearing. They were talking about sacrifice, and making me want to do horrible things. I'm not going crazy, am I?" he asked, hopefully. The ginger and white tom licked his chest a couple of times, eyeing Lupa. "I'm sorry, I probably sound like a lunatic."
The last thing he wanted to do was scare the calico she-cat away, but he didn't know what else to do. He was being honestly open, but he knew that if she didn't understand what was going on, she might take him for a complete mad cat and tell others that he had gone completely out of his mind. He bit his tongue.

Through the thick foggy air scents and voices of other cats whirled around him. Pricking his ears he listened intently only catching murmurs. Flint lifted his head and parted his jaws to take in the scents of these two cats, his pelt bristling. A she-cat and a tom. he thought letting his gray and dark gray flecked pelt settle against his back again. They were both of the Silence. Not a strange cat roaming around.
Taking a few quick light steps, his dark legs carried him towards the other cats. "Hello" he greeted in a guarded voice. The voices may of brought him here but he was still weary of his other companions at times. "I'm not interrupting am I?" Flint inquired warily, peering at them through green eyes.
Flint stepped towards them again, but now with a slower pace. No need to charge in like a nosy kit. His gray flecked tail swung behind him rhythmically as he approached. Flint's pelt matched the stones around them as he snaked his way over to the two cats.
He recognized the mottled brown tortoiseshell as Lupa. Young, and once a trapped Kittypet much like he had been for that single moon of his life. Flint as recognized the ginger and white tom as Tailchaser. Both cats of the Silence.
Flint flicked his ear uncomfortably as he stopped a few fox lengths away.

You do sound like a lunatic. That's what Lupa wanted to say, but she held her tongue for fear of offending the tom before she could grab a hold of the situation. She tilted her head and examined him with a sweet smile on her face. "I wouldn't worry so much about it," She meowed. "Silencefall will know what to do." She smelled the air and scented the approach of another cat. She turned her head.
She saw Flint walking through the fog and she dipped her head in greeting. "Ah, Flint," The calico meowed. "You're not interrupting. In fact, maybe you'd know more about what's going on. Tailchaser was just talking about some strange things he heard, weren't you, Tailchaser?" The she-cat looked to the ginger and white tom expectantly.

Flint flicked his eyes back and forth from the tom to the she-cat. The silence may have called him in, but he preferred not to orient himself with other cats. His mother and siblings were the only three cats that would ever fully gain his trust.
Flint settled his dark gray body down and wrapped his splotched tail around his paws. "You know as much about what he's saying as I do." he responded moving his dark green gaze to the young she-cat.
If any cat had approached him and told him about these voices, he would of scoffed at them and chased them off. Only upon hearing them himself did he believe them. The power they held attracted Flint more than anything. They were power. They were strength. Not like those pathetic clan cats, who put their beliefs in dead cats that live in the sky.

Tailchaser looked down at his paws. Before he could explain what was going on with him, Flint seemed to make it clear that he did not want to talk about the subject. Still, he had to say something about it. He couldn't keep silent. He closed his jaw briefly, but he opened it again and looked the other cat in the eyes. "They were talking about sacrifice," he growled. "Please tell me one of you knows what I am talking about."
It was beginning to dawn on him that he might be utterly insane. He shook his head. These thoughts were not his own. He was a pacifist, things like sacrifice of other cats was almost beyond his comprehension, and it was certainly beyond the realm of his morals. He swallowed. He looked to Lupa, and then to Flint, and back and forth between the two of them with desperation glowing in his eyes.
They don't know what you're talking about, Tailchaser, he thought. What if they decide you're beyond help and kill you? He was becoming inexplicably paranoid, and he swallowed. He stepped back a little bit from them both, gingerly. He looked them over again. "I mean, it could be nothing but..." He didn't finish his sentence. His ears flicked. He hoped that this wasn't going to end badly for him.

Lupa bit her tongue. She'd heard about the sacrifice, not knowing what any of it actually meant. "That sounds like a personal problem," She commented simply. Flint seemed to have no idea about the concept, but he could be holding a poker face just like she was. "Why not talk to Silencefall about it? I mean, she can't reply to you but it's worth a shot."
Silencefall really needed someone to do the talking for her. She knew that many of the cats were getting tired of the she-cat being unable to speak, but they all knew very well that she was the chosen leader and if they tried to harm her, bad things may befall them.

"Yes", Flint agreed with a curt nod. "Silencefall probably knows best." Flint turned his gaze away uncomfortably to hide his eyes from the other two cats. Within a few heartbeats he made up his mind and turned his forest green gaze back to Tailchaser and Lupa.
"I've heard the voices to, as many of the others have. I've also heard them speak of sacrifices. It wasn't until after I joined that I heard them so clearly, but its been a while since then. " Flint added the last part quickly not wanting to gain any more attention. He flicked his gray flecked tail behind him feeling uncomfortable that he had heard some of it to, even if it wasn't nearly as much as the other cat.
Flint flicked his ear and turned his gaze away to show he would say no more about what the voices had said to him, either in the forests when he was a loner or after he joined the ranks of The Silence. Flint unsheathed and re-sheathed his claws a few times, each time letting them linger to make scratches on the ground a few heartbeats longer.
His gaze flicked to Lupa. She was a young cat, and one he hadn't expected to see among the ranks of The Silence. Though he couldn't truly be surprised. The Silence was small, but each day more cats come to it, abandoning their two-legs and clans to join them. Soon, Flint thought, Nothing will be able to stop us. We will have the whole forest.

Tailchaser truly didn't want to have to bother Silencefall about his problems, but it seemed like there could be no one else to talk to about it. But then Flint seemed to admit to hearing the same things that he was, even when Lupa wouldn't... He knew the other cat was aloof, but he desperately needed more information. "Please tell me what they said to you," he meowed quietly. "One of you, I don't care, I need to know, you don't understand!"
The ginger and white tom had a gleam of desperation in his eyes, though he knew he would probably get nothing out of the other two cats. Lupa seemed to have no idea of what he was talking about, or she was good at hiding it. Flint on the other hand gave out so very little information when he did speak on the subject. He clawed at the ground.
Why do they have to be so cold and withholding? he asked himself. All I want is a little bit of information, is that too much to ask? He almost felt himself getting angry but most of all he was just scared of what he had experienced and searching for an answer to his questions.

The calico shook her head. "I told you, I don't know anything." She lied. She turned her head away hoping that Tailchaser didn't look deep enough into her blue eyes to figure out that she wasn't telling the truth. She looked at Flint, not expecting him to say much on the matter either. She almost felt bad but she really didn't have much of a capacity for guilt.
Tailchaser was a generally nice cat, but she didn't want to give up her information, which she figured was best kept a secret. If Tailchaser wanted to know so badly, maybe she could use it against him. She could hint that she had the information and then use him to do things for her, in exchange for it. "Well... maybe I do know... something..."

Flint kept his green gaze away as Tailchaser begged like a kit for information. The voices that spoke to them were for his ears to hear only. The mist swirled around them, fading his pelt into the stone as his mind wondered in thoughts. He briefly allowed his mind to go back to his kittypet kin. He missed them like he missed no other cat.
Lupa's words brought him back to reality. He turned to look at her, curious as to her cautious words. Did she really have things to tell or was this a plot by the young she-cat. Flint angled his ears to hear what she would say next in regards to this 'information.' Her blue eyes looked into the other cats, and Flint's into hers. What things did she know, and at what price would she give this information to the desperate tom?
Flint flicked his tail behind him as his interest grew slightly. He was unwilling to give up what he know but learning of others might help him. Knowledge is power. He felt his claws unsheathe as the power hungry feeling grew. He was called here by these voices. With other cats around prey was harder to come by, especially in this weather. More knowledge could be an advantage.

Tailchaser's ears pricked up when he got the indication that Lupa might know more than she was letting on. He pulled himself closer to her, his eyes flashing with curiosity. He tilted his head. "What do you know?" he asked, practically down in front of her and ready to beg. "I will do anything, just tell me what you know." He turned to Flint, who was watching. Maybe he knew more than he was admitting, too. The ginger and white tom was ready to do anything to figure out what was going on.
"You too, Flint. If either of you have the information, I will pay for it," he meowed. "I'll find you prey, I'll do anything." He seemed to be desperate just for a hint about what the voices meant by sacrifice, and why they had decided to take such a turn for the dark. If only he could just know that other cats knew what he was talking about.
