It still didn't make sense to him, but Flamespirit was an older cat. Starlingpaw shrugged and began licking a kit, wincing slightly at the taste. Huh, she didn't know kits tasted like that. The texture was slimy with afterbirth fluids. She suppressed an exclamation of disgust and continued her task. No need to alarm Silencefall or offend her so soon after birthing, the poor cat.
After she deemed the kit fluffy enough, the tortoiseshell she-cat looked to Poisonpaw. "Maybe we can get a new nest for Silencefall, or make her old one bigger. She needs more room now that she has two others to share it with, you know."
Poisonpaw watched with wide eyes as Starlingpaw licked one of the kits. To him, it all looked very gross. He shuddered and turned away momentarily. He looked back to see that Starlingpaw was trying to suppress having a similar reaction to his. He stared at her as she stopped licking and spoke to him.
"That sounds like a good idea," he said, looking into the nursery. At this point in time, Silencefall did need a bigger nest. There were at least two queens in the Clan, and they would both need as much room as possible to raise their new kits in. "Let's go gather some moss."
Looking out from her den with all four of her kits in place, Sparkstorm wondered what was going on. It was only recently that she had given birth to a litter of kits from a one night stand she had with Eclipsesun. She knew that Silencefall was pregnant, and she'd observed the other she-cat before.
It didn't take her long to realize that Silencefall was giving birth. She could smell those familiar scents in the air. She hoped that there would be no complications, but she knew that she would have to share her den with another queen now. She hoped that there would be room enough for all of them there.
She listened as Flamespirit explained things to the inquisitive apprentices. She looked down at her two kits, Gingerkit and Acaciakit. She didn't know whether or not she cared for them. She felt a mother's nature towards them, but they were not kits that she had wanted, or planned for. The apprentices planned to enlarge her nest in the nursery, which was good. She turned and could see Sparkstorm looking out, with her own kits. Those were the kits that Silencefall's kits would be growing up with.
But how do I tell the Clan what I've named my kits? she thought, sadly. She'd have to find a sample of acacia, which was rare, and maybe some ginger.
Crowbone watched as Silencefall began nursing the newborn kits. He felt bad that she did not have a mate to hunt for her, or watch over her. She only had some vicious, malicious cat out there somewhere who only wanted to hurt and cause pain. He hoped that maybe they could work something about that, and some of the cats could get together to watch over her.

Satisfied that Silencefall's nest was being taken care of, Flamespirit decided to check on Sparkstorm and her kits real quick. He flicked an ear to Crowbone as he walked towards the nursery, silently asking him tom watch the mute queen. The medicine cat nodded in greeting to the she-cat, who was the mother of Eclipsesun's kits. "How are you and your kits doing, Sparkstorm?" the tom asks, his blue eyes flickering to the four kits.
She purred, looking up at the medicine cat. "They're doing well, I suppose. I just can't wait to get out of this nursery," she said with a sigh. "I'm tired of just sitting around all day with them always hungry like they are. I'd rather be out doing warrior things." She didn't like being confined to the small space of the nursery den, and she didn't like having to sit around caring for young kits.
"Thank you for asking, though," Sparkstorm meowed. "I don't often get visitors. Eclipsesun's always off doing something or another." Eclipsesun wasn't really her mate, and she couldn't convince him to stay and look after the kits with her. They'd only had a one night stand, and that wasn't enough to convince the other warrior to take Sparkstorm as his mate.
