Tigerslash stumbled into the camp along with the rest of his patrol, dragging the body of the deputy into the camp. The other warriors were dragging Bluestripe's lifeless body. The dark gray tabby tom let Blackstorm fall to the ground in front of them, and he let out a wail. "Scatterstar, come quickly!" he cried. "Blackstorm and Bluestripe are dead!"
They were found by the Ice River downstream, both of them washed up on the shore. They were in disrepair. They had been tossed and dashed against the rocks so much and their bodies were stiff from the freezing cold water. Neither of them had survived the experience, and when the patrol found them they were already decaying.

[/i][/color] Fishbone was one of the warriors tasked with carrying Bluestripe back into camp. He hadn’t originally been part of Tigerslash’s patrol, but ran into him at the Ice River as Fishbone was making his way there to clean himself off in the shallows. Instead, they had found two broken bodies, one of which Fishbone was dragging between his teeth.
His and his enemies’ blood still splattered his dark front and his injuries burned like fire. He was soaked up to his belly fur from jumping into to the freezing shallows to retrieve the bodies. Trembling quite terribly, he placed Bluestripe down beside Blackstorm. The tabby tom looked down at the two bodies with sadness. The iciness of the river had made their bodies stiff and impossible to tell really how long they had been dead.
Bluestripe’s affection for the deputy was no secret, and Fishbone wondered what had happened to cause the death of these warriors. Would the tragedy of recent events never end? He turned up his head and waited for his leader.

A snarl came from the NorthClan leader when he saw the two broken bodies of his deputy and a warrior, their fur soaked in ice water. The growl continued in his throat as he lifted his head to look at Tigerslash with intense blue eyes blazing. "What happened to them?" he hissed. He sniffed the two bodies but could smell nothing but damp scents and the faintest hint of blood. It was clear that their deaths had something to do with the Ice River, but how two capable cats of his Clan managed to get themselves killed there, he didn't know.
All he knew was now he had to appoint a new deputy before the Gathering that was coming quickly, and he paced back and forth. It was completely unexpected that Blackstorm would have been killed like this, and Bluestripe too. He knew that Bluestripe had been pursuing Blackstorm for quite some time but Blackstorm always seemed oblivious. What could they have possibly been doing out there? he thought. Scatterstar was both irritated and grieving at the same time. Even though he was ruthless in war, losing members of his Clan stung like the slash of claws in his heart.

Tigerslash saw how hurt by the loss that his leader looked. He bowed his head. "We don't know what happened to them. We assume they drowned. Both their bodies were in the shallow parts of the Ice River when we found them," he meowed. "It looks like they fell from up river and were washed down." He couldn't think of how the two warriors had been killed. There was no sign that it had anything to do with the enemy. It just seemed like an unfortunate accident.
Losing the deputy of the Clan was a big loss for NorthClan, even though not many of them liked Blackstorm. At least he had been able to get patrols into shape and was a strong and capable warrior.

Owlflight stared in horror at the broken bodies of NorthClan's deputy and warrior. The patrol had found Blackstorm and Bluestripe on the shores of the Ice River. Ice had formed on the soaking pelts of the already decaying cats. The rocks along the River had ripped their fur in places, but the blood had taken the appearance of scarlet-colored frost.
Scatterstar looked both irritated and hurt. Owlflight had never seen her leader like this. He paced around the corpses of his deputy and warrior.
But how did two experienced warriors drown in the Ice River? They couldn't have been attacked by an unseen empty; the patrol reported no intruder scents. Perhaps it was just an accident. Owlflight thought. Experience does not forsake accidents.
She never really liked Blackstorm or even Bluestripe, but their deaths were, nevertheless, sad. Owlflight knew that Bluestripe had always fancied Blackstorm but the deputy was oblivious to notice her affections. It was even more interesting that the two cats were alone by the Ice River.

[/i][/color] Watching his leader from under his brows, Fishbone stayed silent as Scatterstar paced. He couldn’t remember a time he’d seen their leader so agitated and grief-stricken. His irritation was understandable; he had lost two good warriors, and the Clan were in control of a lot more territory now and had less warriors to protect it. NorthClan—and Scatterstar—needed a capable deputy to care of things. While Fishbone was far from a member of Blackstorm’s fanclub, the dark-pelted deputy had proven to be loyal and proficient at his job, and no cat could fault Blackstorm for that. His death was a loss to the Clan.
He arched his neck and respectfully buried his nose in Bluestripe’s fur for a moment. “There was nothing to suggest this was anything but a terrible accident,” he meowed.

The NorthClan leader knew he would have to appoint a new deputy before the gathering, lest they think that NorthClan was weak. His eyes scanned through the cats around him, trying to gauge which one would be the fittest for the job. NorthClan seemed to go through deputies like freshly caught minnows, and that kind of look was bad for them. He needed someone who was strong enough to carry the burden.
His gaze rested on Fishbone, the cat who was reported to have killed Ripplestar. That's the kind of strength my Clan needs to see, he thought to himself. His blue eyes narrowed. He didn't bother calling a full Clan meeting, in fact he said the words while he was still pacing back and forth in an agitated manner. He said them loudly enough for the surrounding cats to hear, however. "I say these words before my Clan," he meowed, not mentioning StarClan for they wouldn't hear anyway. "The new deputy of NorthClan is Fishbone."

Harespirit was watching everything from the entrance of his den, the smell of death and decay flooding his nose when the bodies were brought in. The young medicine cat's eyes narrowed with suspicion at the circumstances under which the two bodies were found in the Ice River.
It was Blackstorm and Bluestripe, dead and decomposing from being in the elements. Odd that the deputy and the she-cat warrior that felt strongly for the oblivious dark-pelted deputy of NorthClan. Something told him that there was a possible plan that was involved but he pushed it aside and gathered his herbs that he would need to do his work.
"Do you want them prepared for burial, or have they decomposed too far at this point?" the tom asked, feeling somewhat idiotic for having to ask. First off, he was a medicine cat, but he hadn't finished his training. Second, he was used to the bodies being very recent, not several days deceased. He had never been taught about longer dead burials due to Mapleberry's unfortunate and untimely death, having to practice on his own mentor.
Hearing Fishbone announced as deputy, he dipped his head in respect to the tom. Fishbone was an impressive warrior and a loyal one to the Clan. That is something that they would need to keep on surviving like they were.

Tigerslash dipped his head in respect as Fishbone was named the new deputy of the Clan. The choice seemed very wise to him, Fishbone was just the kind of cat who could help get NorthClan into shape but without the bootlicking attitude that Blackstorm used to have. He looked up at the medicine cat of the Clan and meowed, "We should have them prepared for burial. Not that the decision is mine. But these two still deserve a warrior's death vigil and ceremony. They were both good cats of the Clan."
Inside he hoped that Scatterstar was doing well. He seemed to be stressed out, even though NorthClan had won the battle with EastClan. Of course losing a deputy and a warrior to something unrelated to battle was most likely shamful to him.

Owlflight dipped her head in acknowledgment and respect for NorthClan's new deputy. Fishbone will be a good deputy. She knew that he would not be obsequious and arrogant as Blackstorm was. Perhaps with Fishbone as deputy, NorthClan will see better days.
"We should have them prepared for burial. Not that the decision is mine. But these two still deserve a warrior's death vigil and ceremony. They were both good cats of the Clan." Tigerslash said to the Medicine Cat. Owlflight nodded in agreement.
"It doesn't matter the circumstances or whose decision it is, Blackstorm and Bluestripe deserve a proper burial." Owlflight meowed.

"Give them a proper burial, Harespirit," Scatterstar growled under his breath. He agreed with the members of the Clan. It didn't matter how they'd died or how long they'd been dead, even if they had decomposed a little - their bodies had been somewhat preserved by the ice cold of the river. "They deserve that much. If any cat can gather any information pertaining to the cause of death - be it an accident or otherwise, come and see me. You will be rewarded for your helpfulness."
He took one last look at Blackstorm and Bluestripe before, frustrated beyond measure and without victory to console him - since it was a death without battle - he padded off to his den. He trusted Fishbone would take care of any patrols that would have to be arranged. He needed a rest. To lose two warriors to something so inglorious as some kind of accident was what really stung him. And the deputy of the Clan at that.

[bg=beige][atrb=border,4,true][atrb=height,300,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=bordercolor,teal,true][atrb=width,500,true] SPARKSTORM
Sparkstorm wandered into the camp, hesitantly stepping towards the bodies. She recognized them immediately, the deputy Blackstorm and Bluestripe the warrior. She closed her eyes. She heard them talk about finding out what happened. If EastClan has done this... she thought. But it seemed strange that EastClan would go all the way into the foothills and drown two of their warriors just for revenge. It seemed like they'd launch an attack instead of that. "Do you think it had anything to do with EastClan?" she asked no one in particular.

[/i][/color] (ooc: sorry for the late reply)
Fishbone straightened when Scatterstar spoke. For a long, awkward moment, Fishbone was sure their leader has misspoken. His beige-rimmed ears flattened against his head. Him? Scatterstar chose him? He would have never imagined that he would have been Scatterstar’s preferred choice.
He coughed, trying to fight off the embarrassed flush that heated his skin at all of the eyes suddenly upon him. The new deputy bowed his head, both in appreciation to his leader and to avoid the looks. “Th-thank you, Scatterstar.” He nodded with gratitude to each of the surrounding cats showing respect. Scatterstar then left, and his reaction worried Fishbone. Their leader was obviously vexed and stressed because of the situation.
"Do you think it had anything to do with EastClan?" he heard Sparkstorm ask. Fishbone bent down to inspect the bodies closer, grateful for the distraction. Blackstorm and Bluestripe had been thrown against the rocks so much that it was hard to tell what may have been caused by the river or by the struggle of a fight. Fishbone couldn’t imagine that EastClan would have travelled all the way into their territory to throw their deputy into the river, but nothing could be disproven. He nudged Bluestripe’s paw with his nose.
A few dark gray, almost black strands of fur were still held between her claws. Fishbone’s mind whirled with the possibilities, but he outwardly remained calm. Had… had Bluestripe killed Blackstorm? He lifted his head to address Harespirit.
“If we’re going to sit vigil for them, we had best take them out of the camp, favorably wherever you’d prefer to bury them. The Greenleaf sun is already speeding their decay; we can’t keep them here much longer,” he meowed, moving to his paws in preparation to relocate the bodies. “While there isn’t anything to suggest that EastClan were involved,” he addressed the other cats, “I’ll lead a special patrol to investigate the Ice River.”
Fishbone doubted they would find any evidence, but it was better that the Clan think it was an accident than what he was imagining.
