A Stranger Arrives :: Closed

The long grass of the field swayed in the breeze, an ocean of life stretching out to the horizon. The midday sun beat down relentlessly, it’s heat baking the grass to a golden brown. One lone cat wandered through the endless expanse, lost. Her name was Lilysong.

Lilysong stalked, panting, through the grass. She was thristy, and the heat was not helping with her thirst. Squinting, she swung her head from side to side, looking for signs of cats. She had heard stories of the cats that lived here, but so far she had seen none. The knot of worry in the back of her mind twisted, full of worry and doubt. “They have to be here” she mumbled, her usually smooth voice cracking from lack of water. Lily could feel her heart sinking. She had come all this way in search of the clan cats. “They have to exist. Or I…” she stopped, “or I came all this way for nothing.” She looked down and the packed dirt beneath her paws and listened the rustle of the grass brushing against one another. “No, not for nothing. I came to start my own life.” she mewed, trying to reassure herself. But things weren’t looking very good. She began to repeat the stories again in her mind.

“There are four clans, who all live in balance with one another. Each clan is home to many cats, who all work together to create a safe and productive family. They are kind and noble, and smart too. They all….” Lilysong found herself comforted as she remembered the stories, and soon she was at her quick pace traveling through the grass again. After another bit of travel, she decided to rest a bit. She sat down and licked her fur clean, basking in the glow of the sun.

He thought better of their new leader, Ripplestar. But having a new leader hadn't stopped him from making rendezvous with cats from other Clans to exchange secrets. His double dealing espionage was still in full swing. While out in the fields again, he could smell the scent of a cat he hadn't scented around before. Frowning, he padded forward, wondering if some rogue or loner had wandered onto the land. The scent was mixed with a few other unfamiliar scents, but those were all but fading. He searched for a while before he caught sight of a lone she-cat, standing out among the tall grass. Lashing his tail, he quietly approached the intruder, baring his teeth. "Halt! What are you doing on EastClan lands?" he hissed.

Lillysong had just finished cleaning her coat and was enjoying the sunshine. She see birds gliding on the thermal drafts up above. She smiled and relaxed, until she heard a movement. She tensed, and then watched anxious as a cat emerged from the undergrowth. It was a tom. Lilysong listened to what the tom said with growing hope.

“Did you say EastCLAN?” she mewed, fixing him with her eyes wide with hope. “My name Lilysong. I’ve come a long way in search of the clans. Are you part of a clan?”She was standing now, and her tail was twitching and twisting in excitement. “This could be it…. The end of my journey” she thought, the realization making her heart swell with joy. “Don’t get to hopeful,” she warned herself, “you may be mistaken.”

If there was one thing she didn't seem to be, it was a threat. She hadn't even extended her claws, or shone her teeth to him yet. His ears flicked and he sized her up. She didn't seem to know that she was trespassing. Perhaps the border scents had been too faint for her to smell. "Yes, I did say EastClan," he meowed in reply. "I do happen to be one of their warriors. You're not from around here, are you?" She seemed to be excited and hopeful, which wasn't a reaction any trespassing cat would have to finding out that they're on Clan lands. Maybe this was one of the cats he'd heard about from the bay... or a Raider trying to trick him. I mustn't let my guard down, he thought.

Lilysong couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “I did it….. Finally” she thought, filled with relief. She sighed and turned her gaze back on the stranger. “Your right. I’m not from around here. I came from a forest about four and a half moons journey from here. I was hoping I would be able to find the clans. I guess I did.”

Lilysong sat down, unsure of what to say next. Of course she wanted to go to the camp as soon as possible but… She sat there, her tail twitching by the ground. Her ears pulled back awkwardly, betraying her mood. “I guess I didn’t really plan what I was going to say when I got hear…” she mewed, her eyes slipping away from the tom and towards the sky.

She didn't even come down from Cat's Claw Bay, as far as he could tell. She was a foreigner who had only heard of the Clans through other cats. She was sitting there, looking awkward, and he tilted his head. "Was there any particular reason you were searching for the Clans, for starters?" he asked. He wondered if maybe she was looking for a group to live with. He didn't know how Ripplestar would react to having a loner try to join them. He wasn't even sure how the rest of the Clan would react either. They weren't the most friendly cats to outsiders.

~Lilysong~ Lilysong was relieved when the tom ended the silence, for she never much liked silence. It was better to be laughing and talking. “Yes. I came in search of a home. I’ve always well… enjoyed the company of others and the thought of living alone as a rouge seemed like a bore.” she smiled. Her tail flicked back and forth behind her as she talked, as though it had a mind of its own. Suddenly her ears pricked up in surprise. “Oh I don’t think I ever got your name. What would it be?” Her eyes shone with a kit’s curiosity. The more comfortable she was becoming the more her polite and reserved façade was fading , showing more of her childish qualities. “What are the clans like? Are they really as noble and strong as they sounded in the stories? The leaders gifted with the power of nine lives?” The more Lilysong mentioned the more excited she became. She could feel herself shaking in anticipation slightly, and she took a breath to calm herself. “They don’t want some over-excitable kitten joining them. Be calm!” she told herself. He was simply just a lonely she-cat who had been in search of a group to call her own. Somehow she had stumbled across EastClan before she stumbled across any of the other Clans. When asked his name, he sat down on the ground, licking his paw and grooming himself a little before answering. "I'm Ashcloud," he meowed. "What's your name?" She was rapidly firing questions at him now, and he could barely understand her to answer them. What a peculiar loner! he thought to himself. He did his best to decipher what she was saying. "The Clans are just groups of cats. We live together, hunt for one another, follow a code," he paused briefly to smirk. Some of them followed the code, not him. "I suppose we're pretty noble... strong, too. Yeah, yeah. Leaders get nine lives. All that."

~Lilysong~ Lilysong thought about what the tom said. “Ashcloud, that’s a nice name. Im Lily… well Lilysong actually.” she smiled, happy that things seemed to be going so well. “So this is the Eastclan territory. So that means there are four clans.” she paused for a moment to think things over. “It seems that things were just meant to be that I stumbled upon your clan first then. Who knows what would’ve happened. I could have been attacked!” she laughed slightly, as if that were a light thing. Of course she knew she was talking a lot but that’s just what she did, and the wasn’t a point in hiding her true personality. “I have to ask, how is it possible for so many cats to live in one area? Don’t you guys ever run out of food? Especially during leaf bare?” She tilted her head as she asked the question, watching Ashcloud. [bg=white][atrb=width,500,true][atrb=border,0,true] ASHCLOUD: WARRIOR OF EASTCLAN With intrigue, his ears went up when he heard that she had a name reminiscent of a warrior name. That would at least save the trouble of naming her if she joined the Clan. He looked back around the territory, with the wind blowing through the high grasses and making them shuffle back and forth. "Yes, there are four Clans," he replied. "EastClan, NorthClan, WestClan, and SouthClan." He listened to her as she mentioned that she could have been attacked. It was true, some Clans were more about attacking first and asking questions later than others. Ashcloud hadn't managed to bring himself to attack the bewildered loner. She didn't seem like so much of a threat. "We usually have enough food," he responded. "Our territory stretches out far and wide. Sometimes in the middle of leafbare, we don't have as much, but EastClan's always made it through."

~Lilysong~ Lilysong listened and processed everything Ashcloud said. After a moment of thought, she made a decision. “Ashcloud you seem really nice. If your clan members are anything like you I don’t think im going to have a problem fitting in here.” Lilysong mewed happily. She jumped gracefully to her paws and shook the bits of grass out of her fur. She looked up at Ashcloud expectantly. “Ashcloud, I would really like it if you could take me to your camp so I could join Eastclan. I've come a long way and I don't think the other clans will except me." She mewed. Her tail was lashing wildly behind her, taking on a mind of it's own. That was the way that it went. Why not let an outsider into the Clan? It wasn't an everyday occurrence, and he wasn't sure how the leader would react, but Lilysong seemed nice enough. Not to mention, she pretty easy on the eyes. Ashcloud wondered why he was being so lenient with her. He took some kind of strange liking to her. "Well, I can't vouch for my Clanmates," he meowed slowly. "But I don't see why they wouldn't like you. I'll take you to our camp, Lilysong. We'll see how things go from there." Secretly, he was hoping that the new she-cat would be let into the Clan. He didn't know why, but he just did. -- OOC: We can take this to the thread that Ink made with Ripplestar and Juniperpaw so that Lilysong can be introduced to the leader.

~Lilysong~ “Yay!” Lilysong chirped, bouncing up and down excitedly, “Thanks so much Ashcloud!” Shaking out her jitters, she let Ashcloud lead her through the fields and towards what would hopefully be her new home. “It’s finally over. I can finally be happy.” she thought as she walked behind the tom. She stole another glance at Ashcloud, then turned her eyes back on the brush ahead of her. “He’s so nice. I think he’ll be a great friend.” she thought happily, a small warmth growing in her chest.
