Sunrise. One word, seven letters, two syllables. It's a word that paints a picture in your mind, brushstrokes of color and fire. It's the promise of a new day.
This was the time Dovewings loved most. The sun peeking over the horizon, its tendrils of sunlight lacing through the air. It hooked on every stem of grass, turning each dew drop to diamond.
A delicate figure made its way to the top of the hill, ears training on every sound. She listened to each rustle of grass, each note of birdsong. Was that the wind? The figure thought to herself. No, something else... A warm, musky scent flooded her nostrils, and she instantly knew what it was - rabbit. Belly skidding the ground, the cat stalked quietly forward. For a moment she was perfectly still, before - bang! - she pounced. However, she miscalculated the distance and landed a full tail-length away from her target. The rabbit snapped to attention and attempted to flee its pursuer, bounding away at full speed. Hissing, Dovewings threw out her paw, claws snagging into the rabit's fur. It stumbled, and Dovewings, ceasing the moment, quickly bit its throat.
She sighed, licking the small beads of blood of her paws. "What are you, an apprentice?" she spat to herself. Hopefully no one saw that.

Windsky had gone out into the open fields. She hadn't been assigned on any hunt, but the blue-and-tan tortoiseshell felt the need to bring back prey for her Clan nonetheless. It was still early in the day, but she hadn't been able to sleep most of the night. It wasn't meant for cats to be so active during the day and so inactive at night. She was nocturnal, mostly, and that meant that she was going to stay up as late as she wanted.
Her silky furred tail dragged along the ground as she stalked through the fields. She lifted her round orange eyes and looked at the sky. It was gorgeous in the morning, with all the painted colors cast above her as the sun rose in the sky. The jay feathers in her neck fur rustled a little as a breeze blew past.
Her ears pricked when she heard the sounds of another cat hunting. She hadn't known that anyone else was up yet save herself. She prowled forward, and caught a glimpse of Dovewings. She waited until the she-cat was done hunting before prowling up to her. "How's the prey running, Dovewings?" she asked.

"How's the prey running, Dovewings?"
At the sound of Windsky's voice, the she-cat jumped slightly. She hadn't anticipated anyone else to be awake at such an hour. "J-just fine," [/color] she stammered. She couldn't have seen me miss, she thought, reassuring herself. Dovewings felt the smallest bit of annoyance; she had, after all, woken early to go hunting alone. "If you don't mind me asking, what are you doing awake so early in the morning?" Her voice was slightly edged with annoyance. She, in all honesty, didn't care in the slightest why her clanmate was awake. [/blockquote]

Windsky could sense the irritation in Dovewings' voice. She wondered if she had interrupted something important. Her clanmate had finished her kill by the time she came around, and Windsky had been very careful not to disturb any of the prey. She flicked her ears and looked around nonchalantly. "I'm glad to hear that your hunt is going well," she meowed. "I haven't slept all night. That's why I'm out here." She could hear that grate of annoyance growing a little more obvious. She toughened her own voice up, with her claws digging in the ground to hide her tension. "I think you'll find I could ask you the same question. What brings you out here so early?"
She had the slightest hint of suspicions that there could be something up with Dovewings. After all, they lived in a time where even the closest Clanmate could be a traitor. She already vaguely knew of some anti-code activities that were going on with some of her clan mates. She wouldn't know what to do if she found out that Dovewings was the same. She hoped her fears would be put to rest.

"I think you'll find I could ask you the same question. What brings you out here so early?"
Dovewings's could hear the tension in her voice. She couldn't blame her, everyone had their suspicions about, well, everyone. What would've been seen as an early morning hunt now could look like the exact opposite. She could be sneaking away, about to betray her clan. "Hunting," she said guardedly. "I thought that was quite obvious." She could see Windsky's claws kneading the dirt. She was nervous, too. "But, um, you are welcome to join me, if you'd like," she mewed softly, eager to cool down the conversation.

Windsky narrowed her eyes doubtfully when Dovewings mentioned that she was just out hunting. She knew she probably looked just as suspicious being out so early in the morning. If there was one Clan that had a problem with traitors, it was EastClan. Nonetheless, she wasn't about to let her paranoia get in the way if this was nothing more than a simple hunting trip. "I could join you," she meowed to Dovewings. "I was just going to look for prey myself. I suppose it's better with two."
