VELVETMOON You're poison running through me. -- It was much like any other day, beginning with Velvetmoon being bored out of her mind. The pale gray tabby sat in the warriors den, with her head on her paws, staring outside at the gloomy weather. Her tail lashed back and forth, and she breathed in the fog that was rolling in. The swamp always smelled musky, and damp. This wasn't any different from any other day.
Her claws unsheathed and she continued to look out through her light olive green eyes, licking her teeth as she did. Droplets of rain were beginning to fall, smelling just like the hollow log she sat in did. It was all so wet, and she worried for the state of her fur. She did not want to go to the trouble of licking all of the tangles out of it, and it bothered her to think that she might have to.
She wondered if any of the other warriors would seek shelter inside the warriors den, where she lay. Water was beginning to run inside the log, and she curled in further into her nest, hoping that it wouldn't come near her. "What a rotten day," she growled. She knew that later on she would have to find something... entertaining to do. Maybe she would torture some small prey animals for fun? |

Bloodpaw was searching through the camp for his mentor. He crawled around, close to the ground, with his tangled fur dragging along the swampy mud. It clung to his fur, sticky and mucky. He could barely see where he was going with all of the fog and the rain, and it was only made worse by the fact that he only had one good eye to see out of.
He finally scented his mentor, and followed her scent in her direction. She was sitting there inside the hollow log that made up one of the warriors dens. She didn't look very happy. In fact she kind of looked bored. "What are you doing, Velvetmoon?" he asked, coming up to her and sitting down beside her.

VELVETMOON You're poison running through me. -- Velvetmoon looked up, seeing her apprentice coming towards her. He hadn't known the young cat long, but she still did her best to teach him according to her ways. Not the ways of the warrior code, of course, but certainly her ways. The poor young thing was blind in one eye, however, from an accident with a hawk at a young age. She shook her head, feeling pity for him.
"Good day, Bloodpaw," she purred. "I'm just waiting for the rain to pass by. Maybe after that we could do some hunting? I could show you some new ways to make the prey squeal." Her paws tingled at the thought of slowly torturing little prey animals to death. She smiled at her apprentice. Her cold gaze could cut right through anyone. Her smile was never genuine.
She opened her mouth and yawned. She used her tail to invite her apprentice to come lay down next to her. "How long have you been awake, dear?" she asked him. |

To Bloodpaw, his mentor had always been on the eccentric side. He often wondered if there was some closely guarded secret she was hiding. He didn't want to pry, however, so he didn't say anything about it. He just did as she asked, and minded his own business. She did like to torture the prey when they were out hunting. He never knew why she did it, but to tell the truth he delighted it it himself.
"That sounds like fun," he said to her. "I've been awake for not too long now. It's rainy, isn't it? Do you mind if I stay in here until it passes?"
He looked up at her hopefully, through his one good eye.

VELVETMOON You're poison running through me. -- She stared down at her apprentice, wet and soaked from the rain, with his fur clinging to his body. He looked pathetic just sitting out there, and she really couldn't let the cat she was training in her pawsteps just sit there like that. She moved over just a little, opening up a spot in her next. "Come along, Bloodpaw," she meowed. "We'll wait out the rain storm and when it's all over we'll go for our training."
With her saccharine smile still in place, she watched him. Even with only one eye he didn't look so terrible. She'd heard some twoleg had used something to keep it closed, and she could see the odd string stitches that kept the eye closed. It must have been so terrible to get into an accident with a hawk at such a young age. She prided herself in her good looks, and couldn't imagine something so debilitating as having one eye to see out of. |

Bloodpaw curled up next to his mentor, feeling her soft warm fur next to him. Her long gray fur shielded him from the dampness of the outside, even when the wind blew the mists against him. He had a mother, but he almost felt more of a family connection to Velvetmoon than to his own mother. She felt more like a mother to him, and he sort of liked to pretend that he might be her son.
She was smiling at him with the sweetest smile. He looked back up at her through one eye, sparkling with warmth. Yes, if he had had to have another cat as his mother, it would be Velvetmoon. She was so nice to him. Almost a little too nice. In a world where he was bullied by so many other cats, it was nice to know there was someone who cared.
