(ooc: I deleted my last post as Snowpaw because it was directly interacting with an inactive character ): ) [atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,false][atrb=border,0,true] | [atrb=width,350,true][atrb=background,http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g171/Sillvy/SFbg.png]S N O W P A W
Snowpaw spent a considerable amount of time on that tree branch. Her temporary courage had left her, and now she was terrified. She was a meek she-cat to begin with; brave when the situation called for it but passive and peace-loving most of the time. The medicine cat apprentice finally talked herself into climbing down the tree by telling herself that she had Clanmates to attend to.
Gingerly clawing her way down, Snowpaw was acutely aware of the strong fear-scent coming from all the cats, its smell filling the clearing. She ignored the fact that some of it was her own as she continued on.
“Kestrelflight!” she called, a strange feeling weighing her gut down as she dashed into her mentor’s den. “Kestrelflight?” Confused, the gray-and-white cat hurried back into the camp. “Kestrelflight, where have you gone? Where are you, Ripplestar?” Her heart pounded in her chest as she assumed the worst; that her leader and mentor had been lost to the war. StarClan, what has you so occupied that you would let this happen?!
The battle had now became a vicious game of hide-and-seek; whatever side found the other’s leader first would win.
Snowpaw vigorously shook her head and ran on, calling for EastClan’s medicine cat. Distracted by her own desperate thoughts, Snowpaw ran directly into a body. Her muzzle sank into thick fur, her nose filling with the scent of familiar herbs. She jumped back, joy filling her chest. “Kestrelflight!” But the other cat wasn’t her mentor. It was a medicine cat apprentice a few moons older than herself.
And he was most certainly NorthClan.
”H-hello,” she mewed awkwardly to Harepaw, unsure what to do. She couldn’t attack another medicine cat, right? Even if his Clan was raging war in her home. Snowpaw, conflicted, retreated few more paces.

Harepaw stared out into the crowd of fighting cats, his eyes somewhat wide, still shocked from the attack earlier in the fight. Taking a deep breath, he re-entered the battlefield, growing nervous when he couldn't find any recognizable cats. His stomach began to drop and a massive void filled his mind. He couldn't see his mentor anywhere, which sent that void even deeper.
"Mapleberry...? Why can't I find you?" he whispered sadly as he realized something. No matter how strong his faith in StarClan was, rage was filling him. They took his mentor from him, before his training had been fully completed. A sudden anger flashed in his teal-copper eyes. Scatterstar. Scatterstar caused this war, and even if he was his leader, Harepaw felt nothing close to loyalty to him at that moment in time.
Suddenly, he felt a cat run into him, pressed against his pelt. He caught the cat's scent, recognizing it faintly. Definitely EastClan, but not threatening, the she-cat smelled of herbs, similar to him. 'She must be the medicine cat apprentice. Was her mentor still here, or did Kestrelflight disappear just as Mapleberry did?' he wondered when the she-cat backed away several steps. She had mistaken him for her mentor, just as for a heartbeat he had almost believed the same as her. The black and white she-cat seemed a little bit hesitant to be openly friendly, just as Harepaw himself at that moment.
"Hello. You are looking for your mentor too, aren't you?" the dark blue-gray tom replied somewhat awkwardly. This was not what he had expected to happen in the least bit at that time. He was more expecting to be either attacked or finding out that Scatterstar had won, or lost.
Deep down inside, Harepaw was hoping that his body language was as relaxed as it felt considering the situation. He had no intention of harming another cat, let alone possibly the only cat in this hellhole that could even come close to knowing what the medicine cat apprentice was feeling and thinking.
"I promise, I will not hurt you. I'm not like them." he meowed, angling his head toward the other cats that were fighting ruthlessly against any cat who dared get in his or her way.

Embarrassed and more than a little frightened, Snowpaw couldn’t even muster more than a stuttering, “I—I’m, uh… sorry.” Her dark ears flattened to her head. She wasn’t sure if she should be sharing possible Clan weaknesses with a cat from another Clan. But the bond between medicine cats was supposed to transcend Clan conflicts, and Snowpaw was desperate. “How d-did you know? Kestrelflight has gone missing, I think… I don’t know!”
Harepaw’s outwardly calm demeanor was beginning to comfort her a little. “I don’t want to hurt you, either. You’re Mapleberry’s apprentice, aren’t you? Is… is she gone, too?” Still, Snowpaw paced a few steps, her fur, marked like falling snow, fluffed up in every direction. “This is all such a mess, I don’t know what to do... ” A mixture of worry and grief in her amber eyes, Snowpaw looked directly at Harepaw. “What do we do?”
Truth was, Snowpaw was utterly lost. Without a leader to lead, a mentor to teach, or StarClan to guide, she had never felt so alone. Even her brief episode of bravery—her call to EastClan to find Scatterstar—seemed to have no effect on her Clanmates. Running into NorthClan’s medicine cat apprentice was like finding a stream after running thirsty through the fields for days.

Harepaw watched the other medicine cat apprentice, tilting his head as she asked about his mentor. She seemed frightened as she asked. His fear heightened as he remembered that Mapleberry is gone, and so is Kestrelflight.
"I can't find her anymore. She was here earlier and now she has just disappeared. Almost like she...nevermind," his words trailing off as he thought of the worst. That his mentor was dead, or she had been captured. Only, if she had been captured, he would have known, would have at least been able to smell her. This was possibly the worst thing that could happen to the young tom. He was a bit young to be a fully-fledged medicine cat. Warrior, maybe, but not a medicine cat.
Seeing her calm down a bit, she had asked what they were going to do. He could only really think of two things; head to the medicine den or search for their mentors. The second choice seemed futile after the searching already done. His eyes dropped for a moment and his tail lay limp at his paws, only momentarily but a sign of confusion all the same.
"Are there any cats that were being treated for injuries so far? Or have our leaders been seen?" he asked, more concerned for the leader of EastClan than his own Clan's monstrocity of a leader. But he didn't think of one slight issue.
He was a NorthClan cat. Medicine cat or not, he was still viewed as an enemy by this Clan.
A burst of stupid courage, much like Scatterstar, only positive.
"Or, we can try to stop this ourselves. They would have to at least listen to us, won't they?"

Snowpaw’s initial fear-fueled anxiety was wearing off a little as Harepaw spoke. Her mind was clearing and her fur began to lay flat again. A calm was settling over her as she accepted one fact that seemed unmistakable: “I’m sorry but it appears… we’re the medicine cats now,” she meowed. “I’m Snowpaw, by the way. No…” The ashen-and-white cat paused. Snowpaw was the name of an apprentice, which she was no longer. Her mentor would normally christen her, or at the very least, her leader would. Neither were with them anymore. “I am Snowfall,” she decided.
At his first question, the young she-cat had to think a moment. “We had two injured before the start of the battle. They’ll be okay. And for the others—…” Snowfall glanced around, taking quick inventory of her Clanmates. Most were locked in combat; interfering to check for injuries would only hinder them. And her brother Hawkp—where was Hawkpaw? She shook her head. Of any cat, she trusted her brother to take care of himself. “The others will be okay too.”
Snowfall watched patiently as Harepaw looked at his paws in thought.
"Or, we can try to stop this ourselves. They would have to at least listen to us, won't they?"
|
Shocked, Snowfall’s eyes widened. ‘Believe what you want to. But I promise before StarClan, that I know that this is immoral,’ the silver tabby NorthClan warrior had told her, and now Harepaw was sharing the same sort of sentiment. “NorthClan doesn’t want this war any more than we do, don’t you?” she asked cautiously. How could the two of them end this? When she had called to her Clan to find Scatterstar, it looked as if unified NorthClan more than it did her own. Harepaw, however, seemed to have a plan, even if he appeared hesitant to say it. Snowfall’s amber eyes snapped up. “What would you have us do?”[/blockquote]

When Snowpaw, or rather Snowfall told him her name, Harepaw was intrigued by the fact that the medicine cat had just chosen her own name in the absence of an authority. It was a show of confidence and a demonstration of courage to be able to do it. Being in a similar situation, the tom decided to name himself as well.
"My name is Harepaw...actually, scratch that. My name is Harespirit, medicine cat of NorthClan. His voice was more confident now, though he was unsure if it was real or flaunted. |

[/blockquote] Freezecloud gave up trying to coax the queen out of the den and ran back into the camp. There was still chaos, but the fighting seemed less intense than before. In fact, she noticed, the cats did not seem to be fighting one another...they seemed to be looking for someone. Who are they looking for? She thought. She padded farther out of the den, poking her nose above the tall grass. In doing so, she walked right into another warrior.
"Oof!" she mumbled, then hissed, but the other cat sprinted on, taking no notice. Freezecloud flicked her gaze around the EastClan camp, looking for any of her Clanmates. Her gaze fell on Poisonthorn. She loped over to him. "Poisonthorn!" she called, so he could hear her over the hissing and screeching. I'll be glad when this battle's over. "What's going on?"

Poisonthorn rushed to Freezecloud when he heard her call. "We're looking for Ripplestar. We have to take him down in order for the war to be over. EastClan's looking for Scatterstar, we have to do something before it's too late!" he meowed. He looked back to Fishbone and the others. He looked into the grass, wondering where the leader of EastClan could be. His ears went back and he tried to discern the scents in the air.
Where could he have gone? the black cat wondered. He then noticed some rustling towards the very small patch of trees in EastClan land. "I think I see him!" he called to the others.

Fishbone nearly jumped out of his fur when Freezecloud ran up to them. His nerves were frayed with the pressure of what the three of them—he, Poisonthorn, and Lightningfur, —had set out to do. The presence of a fourth Clanmate calmed him a little, but not by much. We can do this, he thought, trying to make his convictions as fierce as possible.
“I think I see him!” Poisonthorn meowed. He looked ahead to where the black-pelted Warrior had indicated. And there in a small copse of trees flashed the pale coat of EastClan’s leader, Ripplestar. The sight of the enemy leader initiated a strange feeling to settle over Fishbone’s mind. He pulled ahead, calling over his shoulder with urgency in his voice, “We have to move quickly!”
It was like an entirely different cat reached down and took hold of his racing paws; calm washed over him and his pupils dilated over his flashing amber irises. He felt composed, driven. Prepared. Fishbone gestured sharply with his tail, signifying for the others to flank Ripplestar and leave him with no paths of escape.

Following the gaze of both her clan mates she spotted the familiar pelt among the background. Lightningfur flicked her ear saying she understood what Fishbone was gesturing. It was now or never! She pelted forward with her clanmates dashing to the left to cut off that route. This war has to end! she thought advancing on him with her claws unsheathed.
Her bright ginger pelt blended in with the grassy camp of Eastclan. Her unsheathed claws scraped the ground with each pawstep. With her heart racing in her chest she locked eyes with Posionthorn and Fishbone, nodded to each of them quickly. Now. They would attack now and this nightmare would be over. Now! She thought leaping at the East clan leader. Her paws landing on his flank and with a triumphant yowl she dug her claws into him and let her teeth meet pelt.
Lightningfur bit down as hard as she could, and felt the blood seep into her jaws and down her fur. Hurry up! she thought willing her clan mates on. This has to end now!
Lightningfur looked for her clanmates without releasing her grip and found Posionthorn. Her eyes burned into him, willing him to end it now.

Posionthorn hesitated. He didn't know if he could kill a cat, not a Clan leader, and most certainly not nine times over. He thought it would be exceptionally cruel to hold Ripplestar there and watch him die so many times. Would StarClan ever forgive him for that? But he knew he couldn't let his clanmates down and he saw the urgent look in Lightningfur's eyes.
He had to do it. He had to do it so that his Clan could be the victor in the battle, maybe so that no other cats would die. He lifted his claws in the air and struck the killing blow to the Clan leader. He felt blood spray onto his face and waited for the leader to wake up again. There was no further movement. Was StarClan taking a long time to heal him? His ears went back. "He's going to get up again, isn't he?" he asked. He looked around at the other NorthClan cats questioningly.

Fishbone moved with Poisonthorn, noting his hesitation but knowing he was doing the same exact thing. As Poisonthorn raised his claws, Fishbone leapt at Ripplestar’s exposed throat, sinking his teeth straight into flesh. He nearly gagged at the blood filling his mouth, but he hung on. Fishbone shut his eyes so tight that he saw stars as a hundred thoughts overwhelmed him.
Poisonthorn didn’t have to take the burden on his own; his Clanmates were here. StarClan would forgive them; they were following Scatterstar’s orders. They had at maximum eight more lives to end; at that image Fishbone almost released the leader to throw up right there on the battlefield. Maybe if they inflicted a serious enough wound, Ripplestar would pass all his lives at once. No more cats had to die; just Ripplestar.
Fishbone clenched tighter, feeling his jaws cramp with the effort. He could feel the leader’s heartbeat slowing…slowing… Then, nothing. He held on a moment longer, waiting for Ripplestar to revive. He waited another moment, expecting something. Hastily dropping the leader, Fishbone jumped back a pace.
"He's going to get up again, isn't he?" Poisonthorn asked, as confused as he was. Fishbone looked from him, to Lightningfur, to the unmoving EastClan leader.
What had they done?
He couldn’t answer. He felt so sick. And though his vision spun with nausea, everything seemed incredibly clear now. Fishbone just never thought it would take being responsible for the death of a leader for him to finally realize that Ripplestar never had extra lives. That there was no StarClan.

Lightningfur crouched by the fallen leader. Grief and regret overwhelming her, weighing her down more then her blood soaked pelt. He's not coming back. She sniffed his pelt, and already the scent of death crept over his fur. It's over
Lightningfur looked to her clanmates, their faces mirrored her own. Throwing back her head she yowled out to the ragged cats still fighting. She saw their heads turn. Some with claws still raised. Lightningfur pulled herself painfully up a near by tree. The poor thing looked as mangled as the cats did, with no leaves growing on its twisted bark.
"Cats of North and East Clan. Ripplestar is dead." She looked around for her own leader, but she didn't see him. Anger flashed through the hurt in her eyes. Bodies were thrown about the camp. The survivors looked like they would drop any moment. This should not of happened. She clawed her way back to the battle field below and met the eyes of her companions.
Flicking her tail she stalked out of the camp. With her head low and tail dragging in the dirt she lead the way out to the fields. Whether her clan mates followed or not she didn't bother to look.
Are you happy, Scatterstar?

Scatterstar heard the news and let out a yowl of triumph from in the grass. His Clan had won the battle, he had triumphed over EastClan. Now they could successfully drive the other clan further back into the territory and claim this part for their own. He had a gleeful look of victory on his face as he rushed out to greet the rest of his Clan members. He wondered why they all looked so sullen.
"This is victory for NorthClan!" he meowed. "Stop looking like you're sitting vigil for a fallen clanmate. We won!" He looked around and then to Ripplestar, who was dead on the ground. He sneered. He knew that EastClan couldn't win in a battle against NorthClan, and now victory was theirs. "Wipe those looks off your faces and chase the rest of the EastClan cats out of here!"
